Stripe Agent Toolkit review
Stripe Agent Toolkit is a collection of SDKs, an MCP server, and agent skills for connecting LLMs and agent frameworks to Stripe.
TL;DR
Stripe Agent Toolkit lets agent frameworks such as LangChain and Vercel's AI SDK call Stripe APIs through function calling. It is for developers building AI products on Stripe or giving coding agents Stripe access. Stripe pairs it with a hosted remote MCP server, agent skills, and billing SDKs for LLM token usage.

What Stripe Agent Toolkit does
- Stripe Agent Toolkit lets LangChain and Vercel's AI SDK integrate with Stripe APIs through function calling.
- Stripe hosts a remote MCP server at https://mcp.stripe.com that MCP clients access securely via OAuth.
- Stripe agent skills give agents instructions for current best practices when building Stripe integrations.
- The @stripe/ai-sdk package integrates Stripe billing with Vercel's ai and @ai-sdk libraries.
- The @stripe/token-meter package connects Stripe billing to native OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google Gemini SDKs without framework dependencies.
- Stripe agent plugins bundle the MCP server and agent skills for Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and Grok Build, and update automatically.
How it works
Stripe Agent Toolkit ships as an npm package and a PyPI package that expose Stripe APIs to agent frameworks as callable functions. Coding agents can also connect to Stripe's hosted MCP server over OAuth. Official plugins bundle the MCP server with agent skills for supported harnesses. Agents without plugin support can combine the MCP server and agent skills manually.
How to install and start using Stripe Agent Toolkit
Claude Code plugin
claude plugin install stripe@claude-plugins-officialCodex plugin
codex plugin add stripe@openai-curatedAgent skills manually
npx skills add https://docs.stripe.comRequirements
- Node.js 18 or later for the npm package @stripe/agent-toolkit.
- Python 3.11 or later for the PyPI package stripe-agent-toolkit.
- Stripe API keys, which a sandbox can provide without signing up.
First steps
- Install the Stripe CLI with `npm install -g @stripe/cli` if it is not already installed.
- Run `stripe sandbox create --help` to get working API keys without signing up.
- Install the Stripe agent plugin or agent skills with `stripe agent setup`.
- Ask your agent to help build a Stripe integration using your API keys.
Who Stripe Agent Toolkit is for
- Developers using LangChain or Vercel's AI SDK who want agents to call Stripe APIs.
- Teams using Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or Grok Build to build Stripe integrations.
- Builders of AI products that need usage-based billing for LLM tokens.
Limitations to know
- Stripe Agent Toolkit skills installed manually do not auto-update. You must run `npx skills update -y` to get the latest versions.
- Stripe Agent Toolkit installation methods for the Agent Plugins standard currently vary by client.
- Stripe Agent Toolkit's Python package requires Python 3.11 or later, which excludes older runtimes.
