What LibreChat does

  • LibreChat connects to Anthropic, AWS Bedrock, OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, Google, Vertex AI, and any OpenAI-compatible API through custom endpoints.
  • LibreChat Agents are no-code custom assistants that use MCP servers, tools, file search, code execution, Skills, and subagents.
  • LibreChat's Code Interpreter runs sandboxed code in Python, Node.js, Go, C/C++, Java, PHP, Rust, and Fortran.
  • LibreChat Code Artifacts create React, HTML, and Mermaid content directly in chat.
  • LibreChat web search combines search providers, content scrapers, and result rerankers to add internet results to model context.
  • LibreChat supports multi-user authentication with OAuth2, LDAP, and email login, plus moderation and token spend tools.
  • LibreChat imports conversations from ChatGPT and Chatbot UI and exports them as screenshots, markdown, text, or JSON.

How it works

LibreChat is self-hosted, either completely local or on the cloud, with Docker and proxy deployment options. Docker Compose stacks bundle a browser-based admin panel. It connects to cloud and local providers such as Ollama through custom endpoints configured in librechat.yaml. Redis supports horizontally scaled deployments, and traces and logs export through OpenTelemetry and Langfuse.

How to install and start using LibreChat

Requirements

  • Horizontally scaled deployments with resumable streams use Redis.

Who LibreChat is for

  • Organizations that want a self-hosted, multi-user AI chat with SSO and role-based permissions.
  • Developers who want one interface for many cloud and local model providers.
  • Teams building no-code agents with MCP tools, Skills, and code execution.

Limitations to know

  • LibreChat attached code workspaces are marked highly experimental, and Agent Plugins are experimental.
  • The LibreChat Agent Management API is in beta.
  • LibreChat updates can include breaking changes, so the README asks users to check the changelog before updating.
  • LibreChat v0.8.8 and its release candidates are published as pre-releases.
