# Agent Reach review

> Agent Reach is a Python CLI that lets AI agents search and read platforms such as Twitter, Reddit, YouTube, GitHub, Bilibili and Xiaohongshu.

## TL;DR

Agent Reach is a command-line tool that gives CLI agents like Claude Code, Codex and OpenClaw read access to sites behind logins, video transcripts, Chinese platforms and structured data. It is for developers who want their agent to reach sources that built-in web search misses. Each platform action tries an ordered list of upstream tools, so a broken tool can be swapped without changing agent usage.

## What Agent Reach does

- Agent Reach searches and reads Bilibili, V2EX, GitHub, YouTube and general web pages by default, with no login needed for basic use.
- Agent Reach adds optional channels for Xiaohongshu, Xueqiu, Boss, Xiaoyuzhou, LinkedIn and Reddit, plus experimental Twitter, Facebook and Instagram support.
- Agent Reach fetches Bilibili and YouTube subtitles and transcribes YouTube videos and Xiaoyuzhou podcasts using a Groq or OpenAI key.
- Agent Reach picks a channel automatically from a URL with the read command, such as a V2EX thread link.
- Agent Reach runs a doctor health check that actually executes commands and can output machine-readable JSON.
- Agent Reach is read-only: it searches and reads but never posts, comments, likes or sends direct messages.

### How it works

Agent Reach runs as a CLI that your agent calls in the form agent-reach <channel> <action> [args]. Each platform action has an ordered list of upstream tools, such as bili-cli, OpenCLI, yt-dlp, Jina Reader and Exa, tried in turn when one fails. Logged-in platforms use a dedicated background browser that copies the site's login from your Chrome. Everything is stored in ~/.agent-reach/.

### Requirements

- An AI agent that is allowed to execute commands.
- uv, which the agent installs if missing and which needs no admin password.
- A Groq or OpenAI key for YouTube and podcast transcription.
- A logged-in account in Chrome for platforms that require login, such as Reddit, Xiaohongshu and Twitter.

### First steps

1. Send your agent the install sentence from the README pointing to docs/install.md; the agent handles installation and upgrades.
2. Run `agent-reach channels` to see which channels are available and what each one can do.
3. Enter API keys in your own terminal with `agent-reach configure groq-key` instead of pasting them into chat.
4. Ask your agent to add optional channels, for example "add Xiaohongshu", which installs the needed software automatically.

## Who Agent Reach is for

- Developers using CLI agents like Claude Code, Codex or OpenClaw who need content behind login walls.
- Agents that need Chinese platforms such as Bilibili, Xiaohongshu, V2EX and Xueqiu.
- Research workflows that pull video subtitles, transcripts, or GitHub repos, issues and PRs as clean text.

### Limitations

- Agent Reach's Twitter, Facebook and Instagram channels are experimental and may stop working at any time due to anti-scraping measures.
- Agent Reach is read-only and cannot post, comment, like or message.
- Agent Reach's Reddit channel has no zero-config path and requires a logged-in session.
- Agent Reach copies your main account login by default; platforms may restrict accounts used for automated access, so a secondary account is recommended.

## Agent Reach FAQ

### Is Agent Reach free and open source?

Yes. Agent Reach's source code is on GitHub (Panniantong/Agent-Reach) under the MIT license, so you can use it for free.

### Is Agent Reach still maintained?

Yes. The Panniantong/Agent-Reach repository was last updated on Nov 1, 2026, and the latest release, v1.6.1 on GitHub, came out on Nov 1, 2026.

### How popular is Agent Reach?

Agent Reach has 107.2k GitHub stars as of Nov 1, 2026. It gained 5.5k new stars in the week of Oct 25–31, 2026, against a 12-week average of 3.3k a week. That made it #5 among AI coding agents on the Devtoolwatch Board.

### Agent Reach vs Firecrawl: how do they compare?

Agent Reach and Firecrawl are both tracked by Devtoolwatch. Agent Reach has 107.2k GitHub stars and Firecrawl has 197.4k. Firecrawl is an API and open source project to search, scrape, crawl, and interact with web pages, returning LLM-ready markdown or JSON for AI agents. ### What are the best alternatives to Agent Reach?

Other AI coding agents on the Devtoolwatch Board in the week of Oct 25–31, 2026, by momentum: Cindy (#1), OpenMausBot (#2), Orca (#3), OpenBot (#4), Skill Recorder (#6). The alternatives table above has their numbers.

### What is Agent Reach?

Agent Reach is an MIT-licensed Python CLI that lets AI agents search and read platforms they cannot reach on their own, including Twitter, Reddit, YouTube, GitHub, Bilibili and Xiaohongshu, with no API fees.

### Is Agent Reach safe to use with my accounts?

Agent Reach is read-only, never logs in for you and never asks for passwords. It copies one site's login from Chrome into its own dedicated browser, leaving your browser unchanged. That browser is reachable only from your machine. The README recommends a secondary account. The PyPI package named agent-reach is not this project.

### How does Agent Reach work?

Agent Reach exposes commands like agent-reach <channel> <action> [args]. For each action it tries an ordered list of upstream tools, falling back when one fails. For example, Bilibili reading uses bili-cli first and then a public API, and web reading uses Jina Reader and then Exa.

### Which agents does Agent Reach work with?

Agent Reach works with any agent, according to its README. It names CLI agents such as Claude Code, Codex, Hermes Agent and OpenClaw as examples. The agent must be allowed to run commands.

### How do I uninstall Agent Reach?

Tell your agent "uninstall Agent Reach". Agent Reach first lists what it will delete and removes it only after you confirm. It deletes only what it installed, which lives in ~/.agent-reach/.
