### How it works

MCP Atlassian runs as an MCP server, typically launched with uvx from an IDE's MCP configuration such as Claude Desktop or Cursor. You pass Jira and Confluence URLs and credentials as environment variables. It can also run over HTTP transports, including SSE and streamable-http, with multi-user support. Installation options include uvx, Docker, pip and source.

### Requirements

- Python 3.10 or later.
- An Atlassian API token for Cloud, or a Personal Access Token for Server/Data Center.
- Confluence Server/Data Center v6.0+ or Jira Server/Data Center v8.14+ for self-hosted deployments.
- An MCP-compatible client such as Claude Desktop, Cursor or Autohand Code.

### First steps

1. Create an Atlassian API token at id.atlassian.com, or a Personal Access Token for Server/Data Center.
2. Add the mcp-atlassian server with uvx to your Claude Desktop or Cursor MCP configuration.
3. Set JIRA_URL, JIRA_USERNAME, JIRA_API_TOKEN and the matching CONFLUENCE_ variables in the server's env block.
4. Ask your assistant something like "Find issues assigned to me in PROJ project".
