# MonoCode review

> MonoCode is a desktop GUI that runs coding agents already installed and logged in on your machine, such as Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor.

## TL;DR

MonoCode is a desktop app that gives a tabbed GUI to coding agents you already use, including Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, OpenCode, and Devin. It is for developers who want to run several agent sessions side by side. It works with your existing subscriptions and does not sell tokens.

## What MonoCode does

- MonoCode runs supported coding agents, such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Grok Build, OpenCode, and Devin, if they are installed and logged in.
- MonoCode treats each tab as a session and lets you split panes to work with sessions side by side.
- MonoCode uses separate Git worktrees for parallel tasks and keeps conversations organized by project.
- MonoCode lets you edit files and review changes inside the app.
- MonoCode's /operator command lets an agent open sessions and manage worktrees and notes.
- MonoCode includes Monos, experimental agents that work across projects, keep a memory, and run scheduled tasks.
- MonoCode Native preview sends push notifications to paired phones for approvals, questions, and finished sessions.

### How it works

MonoCode is a desktop app for macOS, Linux, and Windows. The production app is built with React and Tauri. It launches agents you have already installed and signed in to, using your own subscriptions. You open a project folder, pick an agent, and type in the composer. An experimental Rust + GPUI native preview and a separate Expo mobile app also exist.

## How to install MonoCode

**Run the mobile app from source**

```
cd mobile && npm install && npm start
```

### Requirements

- At least one supported coding agent installed and logged in.
- macOS (Apple Silicon or Intel), Linux x86_64, or Windows x86_64.
- Node.js 20+ and a stable Rust toolchain to build from source.
- Node.js 22+, Rust, and Xcode on macOS to build the native preview from source.

### First steps

1. Install and sign in to at least one supported coding agent before installing MonoCode.
2. Download the MonoCode installer for your platform: DMG for macOS, .deb, .rpm, or AppImage for Linux, or the Windows installer.
3. Open a project folder, choose an agent, and send a message.
4. Split panes to work with multiple sessions side by side.

## Who MonoCode is for

- Developers who already pay for Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or similar agents and want one GUI for them.
- Developers running parallel agent tasks in separate Git worktrees.

### Limitations

- MonoCode does not include model access. You need your own subscription to a supported agent.
- MonoCode is still early, and Monos and remote sessions are marked experimental.
- The Native preview uses your existing MonoCode database and saves changes there, so back up data before testing.
- The Native preview is mainly tested on macOS. Linux x64 and Windows builds still needed runtime testing at first release.
