# Paseo review

> Paseo is an open source agentic development environment for running and orchestrating multiple coding agents from desktop, mobile, web, and CLI.

Devtoolwatch Board, the week of Oct 25–31, 2026. Canonical page: https://index.devtoolwatch.com/tools/getpaseo-paseo/

## TL;DR

Paseo is an open source app that gives Claude Code, Codex, Copilot, OpenCode, Pi, Antigravity, and Muse Code one interface. It suits developers who run several agents in parallel, each in its own worktree. A local daemon serves desktop, mobile, web, and CLI clients, so you can check in on agents from your phone.

## What Paseo does

- Paseo runs many coding agents at once, each in its own git worktree, on one machine or several.
- Paseo lets agents create worktrees, launch other agents, and talk to them, across providers.
- Paseo puts agents, an editor, terminals, diffs, pull requests, and a browser in one window with arrangeable split panes.
- Paseo offers voice mode for dictating tasks. Voice mode is opt-in and supports local speech models such as Whisper and SenseVoice.
- Paseo supports plugins that run on the daemon and add UI, agent lifecycle hooks, MCP server configuration, or new agent providers.
- Paseo provides a CLI and a TypeScript SDK, @getpaseo/client, for scripting agents and building integrations or dashboards.
- Paseo keeps terminal programs running across daemon restarts and resumes interrupted agents in their existing conversations.

## How to install Paseo

**CLI and daemon with npm**

```
npm install -g @getpaseo/cli
```

**Paseo skills for your agent**

```
npx skills add getpaseo/paseo
```

### Requirements

- At least one agent CLI installed and configured with your credentials: Claude Code, Codex, GitHub Copilot, OpenCode, Pi, Antigravity, or Muse Code.
- npm, for the server or CLI install. Docker is an alternative for running the daemon and web UI.

### First steps

1. Install and configure at least one agent CLI, such as Claude Code or Codex, with your credentials.
2. Download the desktop app from paseo.sh/download and open it. The daemon starts automatically.
3. To connect your phone, open Settings → your host → Pair Device.
4. From the terminal, start a task with paseo run, then list agents with paseo ls.

## Who Paseo is for

- Developers running several coding agents in parallel on separate worktrees.
- Developers who use multiple agent providers and want them in one interface.
- Developers who want to monitor or steer agents from a phone.
- Teams building agent orchestration or issue integrations with a TypeScript SDK.

### Limitations

- Paseo is not an agent itself. It requires a separately installed and authenticated agent CLI.
- Paseo plugins run with access to your daemon machine and connected clients, so you should install only plugins you trust.
- Paseo runs agents on your own machines, so you must host and run the daemon yourself.
- The Docker image needs extending with the agent CLIs you use, plus credentials.

## Paseo FAQ

### Is Paseo free and open source?

Paseo's code is on GitHub (getpaseo/paseo), but the repository doesn't declare a standard open-source license. Check its license file before using it commercially.

### How do I install Paseo?

Run `npm install -g @getpaseo/cli`. The install section above has the other options from the project's README.

### Is Paseo still maintained?

Yes. The getpaseo/paseo repository was last updated on Nov 1, 2026, and the latest release, v0.14.0 on GitHub, came out on Oct 29, 2026.

### How popular is Paseo?

Paseo has 22.6k GitHub stars as of Nov 1, 2026. It gained 793 new stars in the week of Oct 25–31, 2026, against a 12-week average of 841 a week. That made it #17 among AI coding agents on the Devtoolwatch Board.

### Paseo vs Orca: how do they compare?

Paseo and Orca are both tracked by Devtoolwatch as AI coding agents. Paseo has 22.6k GitHub stars and Orca has 111.7k. Orca is a desktop agent development environment for running Claude Code, Codex, and other CLI coding agents in parallel, each in its own git worktree. ### Paseo vs herdr: how do they compare?

Paseo and herdr are both tracked by Devtoolwatch as AI coding agents. Paseo has 22.6k GitHub stars and herdr has 47.1k. herdr is an open source terminal runtime for coding agents that keeps their sessions running in a background server and shows each agent's status. ### What are the best alternatives to Paseo?

Other AI coding agents on the Devtoolwatch Board in the week of Oct 25–31, 2026, by momentum: Cindy (#1), OpenMausBot (#2), Orca (#3), OpenBot (#4), Agent Reach (#5). The alternatives table above has their numbers.

### What is Paseo?

Paseo is an open source agentic development environment. It gives Claude Code, Codex, Copilot, OpenCode, Pi, Antigravity, and Muse Code one interface across desktop, mobile, web, and CLI. It runs many agents in parallel, each in its own worktree.

### Is Paseo safe and private?

Paseo states it has no telemetry, tracking, or forced log-ins. Agents run on your own machine. Device pairing can use an end-to-end encrypted relay, or a direct TCP, Tailscale, or VPN connection. Plugins have access to your daemon machine, so you should install only trusted code.

### Can I use Paseo from my phone?

Yes. Paseo has native iOS and Android apps, and the README describes the mobile app as the full app. To pair your phone, open Settings → your host → Pair Device in the desktop app.

### Which coding agents does Paseo support?

Paseo's README lists Claude Code, Codex, GitHub Copilot, OpenCode, Pi, Antigravity, and Muse Code. Plugins can add other coding agents as providers.

### Can I run Paseo on a remote server?

Yes. Paseo can run on a server or VM without the desktop app. Install the CLI with npm, or use the Docker image, then start the daemon. Other clients connect to it as a host, and the CLI can target it with --host.
