## What Augment CLI does

- Augment CLI analyzes code, makes safe edits and automates routine tasks in your project from natural-language instructions.
- Augment CLI runs interactively in your project directory and accepts an optional initial prompt.
- Augment CLI can run once and print the result to stdout with --print, which suits CI use.
- Augment CLI returns only the final output when you add the --quiet flag.
- Augment CLI loads reusable prompts from markdown files in .augment/commands/ and makes them available as slash commands.
- Augment CLI has a /feedback command for sending feedback or bug reports with context.
- Augment Code publishes official GitHub Actions to run its agent, review pull requests and describe pull requests.

### How it works

Augment CLI is installed as the auggie command, either from npm or with a shell install script on macOS and Linux. You log in with auggie login, then run auggie inside a project directory. Custom slash commands live in .augment/commands/ as markdown files with frontmatter. Separate GitHub Actions workflows go under .github/workflows/.

## How to install Augment CLI

**With npm**

```
npm install -g @augmentcode/auggie@latest
```

**Install script (macOS/Linux)**

```
curl -fsSL https://github.com/augmentcode/auggie/releases/latest/download/install.sh | bash
```

### Requirements

- Node 22 or later for the npm install, according to the README.
- An Augment login, done with auggie login.
- macOS or Linux for the curl install script.

### First steps

1. Log in to your Augment account by running auggie login.
2. Change into your project directory and run auggie, optionally followed by an initial prompt.
3. Use auggie --print "your instruction" for one-off runs, such as in CI.
4. Add markdown prompt files under .augment/commands/ to create custom slash commands like /code-review.

## Who Augment CLI is for

- Developers who want a coding agent that works on their codebase from the terminal.
- Teams running scripted agent tasks in CI with non-interactive print mode.
- Teams that want shared, versioned prompts for code review, bug fixes or security reviews.

### Limitations

- Augment CLI requires logging in to an Augment account before use.
- The Augment CLI install script targets macOS and Linux only.
- Recent Augment CLI 1.2.0 builds on GitHub are published as prereleases.
