# Agno review

> Agno is a Python framework and runtime for building agents, running them as a service, and managing the platform through a web UI.

Devtoolwatch Board, the week of Oct 25–31, 2026. Canonical page: https://index.devtoolwatch.com/tools/agno/

## TL;DR

Agno is a Python framework and runtime for agent platforms. It is for companies that want to run agents as a service while keeping control of their data, memory, and security. Agno provides an SDK, the AgentOS runtime with a REST API and MCP server, and a control plane UI. It can also run agents built with the Claude Agent SDK or Codex SDK.

## What Agno does

- Agno serves agents through a production API with 50+ endpoints, SSE, and websockets.
- Agno stores sessions, memory, knowledge, and traces in your own database.
- Agno connects agents to GitHub, Slack, Postgres, and other services through 100+ pre-built toolkits.
- Agno can pause runs for user confirmation and block tools that require admin approval.
- Agno exposes agents via Slack, Telegram, WhatsApp, Discord, AG-UI, and A2A interfaces.
- Agno provides OpenTelemetry tracing, run history, audit logs, and JWT-based RBAC with multi-tenant isolation.
- Agno offers cron-based scheduling and background jobs with no external infrastructure.

### How it works

You build agents with the Agno SDK, Claude Agent SDK, or Codex SDK. You run them with the AgentOS runtime and manage them in the AgentOS UI. The starter template runs locally using Docker. It provides a REST API, a Postgres database for data and traces, an MCP server, and a control plane. You can deploy to any cloud platform that runs containers.

## How to install Agno

**From PyPI**

```
pip install agno
```

### Requirements

- Python >=3.9 and <4
- Docker to run the starter agent platform locally

### First steps

1. Give your coding agent the starter prompt to clone the agentos-railway template into a folder called agent-platform.
2. Swap in a different template repo, such as agentos-docker or agentos-aws, to deploy somewhere else.
3. If you prefer to code by hand, follow the docs guide to build a first agent in 20 lines of code.
4. Add docs.agno.com/mcp as an MCP server in your coding agent to give it access to the Agno docs.

## Who Agno is for

- Teams that want to run agents as a service behind a REST API and MCP server
- Companies building products on top of coding agents, knowledge agents, or MCP servers
- Developers who want to keep agent data, memory, and security under their own control

### Limitations

- Agno sends a telemetry event per agent run by default. Set AGNO_TELEMETRY=false to disable it.
- The recommended setup flow assumes you use a coding agent such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Codex.
- Deployment targets must be platforms that run containers.

### What are the best alternatives to Agno?

Other AI agent frameworks on the Devtoolwatch Board in the week of Oct 25–31, 2026, by momentum: Harness² (#1), HyperFrames (#2), AgentScope (#3), AG-UI (#4), LangGraph (#5). The alternatives table above has their numbers.

### What is Agno?

Agno is a framework and runtime for agent platforms. You build agents with the Agno SDK, run them as a service with the AgentOS runtime, and manage everything in the AgentOS UI.

### Can Agno run agents built with other SDKs?

Yes. Agno can run agents built with the Agno SDK, Claude Agent SDK, Codex SDK, or another supported framework. Agno provides the orchestration and service layer around them.

### Does Agno collect telemetry?

Yes. Agno sends one telemetry event per agent run to learn which model providers to prioritize. Prompts, messages, and outputs are never sent. You can disable it by setting AGNO_TELEMETRY=false.

### Where can Agno be deployed?

Agno runs on any cloud platform that runs containers. Starter templates exist for Docker, Railway, AWS, GCP, Azure, Fly, Render, Modal, and Helm.

### Can Agno run Claude or Codex agents in a sandbox?

Yes. Since v3.1.4, ClaudeAgent and CodexAgent take a sandbox= parameter. The harness then runs inside an isolated per-session computer instead of on the host.
